After a year of detailed discussion and negotiation with GCC, UNISON and its sister unions GMB and Unite have agreed to the Council’s proposals for a new, simpler grading structure. With effect from September 2019, pay grades of NJC staff in GCC and council-controlled schools will be shorter and will not overlap. All staff will be transferred to the new grades, which will be denoted by numbers 1-11, rather than letters B-L. No staff will be worse off, and some who are at or near the bottom of their current grades will see an appreciable increase in their pay. Full details are on Staffnet, along with a ready reckoner which enables staff to find out exactly how they will be affected.

Thanks to all those UNISON members who took part in our ballot over the proposals. The result was that 89% of those who voted were in favour of the changes.
